Gospel: Mk 6:1–6
Leaving that place, Jesus returned to his own country, and his disciples followed him. When the Sabbath came, he began to
teach in the synagogue, and most of those who heard him were astonished. But they said, “How did this come to him? What kind
of wisdom has been given to him, that he also performs such miracles? Who is he but the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the

Gospel: Lk 2:22–40*
When the day came for the purification according to the law of Moses, they brought the baby up to Jerusalem, to present him to
the Lord, as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every firstborn male shall be consecrated to God. And they offered a sacrifice, as ordered
in the law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. There lived in Jerusalem at this time a very

They arrived at the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gerasenes. No sooner did Jesus leave the boat than he was
met by a man with evil spirits, who had come from the tombs. (...) When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell at his feet,
and cried with a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? For God’s sake, I beg you, do not

Gospel: Mk 1:21–28
They went into the town of Capernaum and Jesus taught in the synagogue on the sabbath day.
The people were astonished at the way he taught, for he spoke as one having authority and not like the teachers of the Law.
It happened that a man with an evil spirit was in their synagogue, and he shouted, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have

On that same day, when evening had come, Jesus said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side of the lake.” So they left
the crowd, and took him along in the boat he had been sitting in, and other boats set out with him. Then a storm gathered and it

Jesus also said, “In the kingdom of God it is like this: a man scatters seed upon the soil. Whether he is asleep or awake, be it day
or night, the seed sprouts and grows, he knows not how. The soil produces of itself: first the blade, then the ear, then the full
grain in the ear. And when it is ripe for harvesting, they take the sickle for the cutting: the time for the harvest has come.”

Jesus also said to them, “When the light comes, is it put under a tub or a bed?
Surely it is put on a lampstand. Whatever is hidden will be disclosed, and whatever is
kept secret will be brought to light. Listen then, if you have ears!”

Gospel: Mk 4:1–20*
Again Jesus began to teach by the lake; (...)“Listen! The sower went out to sow. As he sowed, some of the seed fell along a path,
and the birds came and ate it up. Some of the seed fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil; it sprang up immediately because
it had no depth; but when the sun rose and burned it, it withered because it had no roots. Other seed fell among thorn bushes;

Gospel: Mk 3:31–35
Then his mother and his brothers came. As they stood outside, they sent
someone to call him. The crowd sitting around Jesus told him, “Your mother and
your brothers are outside asking for you.” He replied, “Who are my mother and my
brothers?” and looking around at those who sat there, he said, “Here are my mother and
my brothers. Whoever does the will of God is brother and sister and mother to me.”
REFLECTION:
Jesus does not depreciate His blood relations to His mother and His extended
family members who are considered His brothers and sisters. On the other
hand, he elevated it higher than mere relations of the flesh. It is a relationship
born from the hearing of the same word that He preached which they
accepted and believed. For Mary His mother was the hearer of God’s word par
excellence. His relatives must have been the first to believe having a close and
intimate relationship with Him. He therefore invites others who are listening to
enter into this relationship based on the hearing and acceptance of the word
and not of human relations based on blood.

baptized will be saved; the one who refuses to believe will be condemned. Signs like these will accompany those who have
