As Jesus was teaching in the temple, he said, “The teachers of the Law say that
the Messiah is the son of David. How can that be? For David himself, inspired by the
Holy Spirit, declared: The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand, until I put your

A teacher of the Law had been listening to this discussion and admired how Jesus answered them. So he came up
and asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is: Hear, Israel!

The Sadducees also came to Jesus. Since they claim that there is no resurrection, they questioned him in this way, “Master, in the
Scriptures Moses gave us this law: If anyone dies and leaves a wife but no children, his brother must take the woman, and with her
have a baby, who will be considered the child of his deceased brother. Now, there were seven brothers. The first married a wife, but

They sent to Jesus some Pharisees with members of Herod’s party, with the purpose
of trapping him by his own words. They came and said to Jesus, “Master, we know

Mary then set out for a town in the hill country of Judah. She entered the house of
Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt
in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and, giving a loud cry, said, “You

As for the eleven disciples, they went to Galilee, to the mountain
where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Jesus, they bowed

They were once again in Jerusalem. As Jesus was walking in the temple, the chief
priests, the teachers of the Law and the elders came to him and asked, “What
authority do you have to act like this? Who gave you authority to do the things you do?”

So Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And after he had looked all
around, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve. The next day,
when they were leaving Bethany, he felt hungry. In the distance he noticed a fig tree

They came to Jericho. As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large
crowd, a blind beggar, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. On
hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth passing by, he began to call out, “Son of David, Jesus,

They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead. The Twelve were anxious, and those who
followed were afraid. Once more Jesus took the Twelve aside to tell them what was to happen to him. “You see we are
going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be given over to the chief priests and the teachers of the Law. They will

Just as Jesus was setting out on his journey again, a man ran up, knelt before him and asked, “Good Master,
what must I do to have eternal life?” Jesus answered, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.

(or Jn 15:26–27; 16:12–15)
On the evening of that day, the first day after the Sabbath, the doors were locked where the disciples
were, because of their fear of the Jews. But Jesus came, and stood among them, and said to them,
“Peace be with you!” Then he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples, seeing the Lord, were full of joy.
Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” After saying this, he
breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit! Those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; those
whose sins you retain, they are retained.”
Lectio Divina:
READ: Jesus promised to send the Spirit when He is gone. The Spirit will witness
to His truth and lead the disciples to the truth. This is because the Spirit will
speak only about Jesus’ truth. The Spirit will take from Jesus and make it known
to Jesus’ disciples in return.
REFLECT: Jesus in going back to the Father will not leave behind those He
love as orphans. They will not be alone. A Helper will be sent to be the abiding
presence of Jesus and the Father in the hearts of all who believe Him. Thus, the
Spirit is a comforting presence. It will not invent new teachings but will only
remind us of what Jesus taught before. It is, therefore, a Spirit of continuity. It’s
a wonder therefore that some people invoke the authority of the Spirit to spew
new and strange teachings. The Spirit of Jesus does not divide the believers.
The spirit of the evil one brings anarchy. Therefore, the true mark of the genuine
Spirit of Jesus is continuity of His teachings. The Spirit also unites believers into
one community who listen and follow Jesus’ teachings.
RESPOND: When was the last time you prayed to the Holy Spirit? For the Holy
Spirit is the most neglected Person of the Holy Trinity. Perhaps it is high time
to start a conversation with the Spirit of Truth so that we will not stray far from
the truth of God.

Peter looked back and saw that the disciple Jesus loved was following as well, the one who had reclined close to Jesus at the
supper, and had asked him, “Lord, who is to betray you?” On seeing him, Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus
answered, “If I want him to remain until I come, is that any concern of yours? Follow me!” Because of this the rumor spread in the
