That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. And you shall die in your sins, unless you believe that I am He.”
They asked him, “Who are you?” and Jesus said, “Just what I have told you from the beginning.
I have much to say about you and much to condemn; but the One who sent me is truthful and everything I learned from him, I proclaim to the world.”
They didn’t understand that Jesus was speaking to them about the Father.
So Jesus said,“When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He and that I do nothing of myself, but I say just what the Father taught me.
He who sent me is with me and has not left me alone; because I always do what pleases him.” As Jesus spoke like this, many believed in him.
REFLECTION:
Jesus foretells of his death and is very sure of his destination: he is returning to the Father.
And he warns the Jews of their destiny if they remain in their unbelief. He speaks with full conviction and courage that marks the trust He has in the Father.
For this, many come to believe. As we come closer to commemorate the death of Jesus, let us ask ourselves: have we grown mature in our faith in God?
Jesus has shown us the way to the Father. Our experience in faith could be, at times, clouded with anxiety, confusion, or even suffering.
But let us learn from Jesus. Let us learn to have that full trust in the Father, confident that whatever happens, God will not leave us.
As we commemorate the suffering of Christ, let us learn to let go of whatever things that keep us from being in full communion with God.
If we want to follow Jesus to where HE is now, let us emulate Him in His trusting and obedient life with the Father.
