It was also said: Anyone who divorces his wife, must giveIt was also said: Anyone who divorces his wife,
must give her a written notice of divorce. But what I tell you is this: if aman divorces his wife, except in the
case of unlawful union,he causes her to commit adultery. And the man who marriesa divorced woman
commits adultery.

Reflection

Elijah wasn’t originally calledElijah wasn’t originally calledby God. Burning with zeal forYahweh and unable
to stand His rejection by the nation,Elijah took upon himself thetask of defending Yahweh. Hedrew up plans,
never really consulting God’s mind. All hisplans smacked of a God ofgrandiosity—a projection ofhis own narcissistic
grandiosity on to God. At some point, the balloon must burst, and it did.Following the success on Moun tCarmel, Elijah
suffers success depression,turns suicidal,lodges himself in the cave where Moses had received a grandiosetheophany.
Now that Elijah is broken and is willing to learn,God offers the corrective—first by granting him a theophanycontrary to
the one Moses had,thereby teaching him that Godis not to be sought in grandiosespectacles, but in the soundof sheer
silence; and then by commissioning him for God’sown projects which includesanointing his own successor aswell.
To his credit, Elijah obeys and is a changed man, witha new God-experience and ahumbler self.
