a certain hour, he would stay awake to prevent his house to be broken into. So be alert, for the Son
of Man will come at the hour you least expect.
Imagine a capable servant whom his master has put in charge of his household to give them food at
the proper time. Fortunate indeed is that servant whom his master will find at work when he comes.
Truly, I say to you, his lord will entrust that one with everything he has.
Not so with the bad servant who thinks: My master is delayed. And he begins illtreating his fellow|
servants while eating and drinking with drunkards. But his master will come on the day he does not
know and at the hour he least expects. He will punish that servant severely; and place him with
the hypocrites. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Reflect
Sometimes people wonder why we need a Church. After all, isn’t it enough to have a personal
relationship with Jesus? But this “me and Jesus” mentality is not the way of faith to which God calls
us. From the beginning, God said that it was not good for us to be alone. He called a people to
himself and made them a great nation. When Jesus began his ministry, he called a group of followers
and the Spirit descended on these disciples when they were gathered together.
Paul helps us to understand why being part of a faith community is so important. The faith of others
can help our own, strengthening our faith. When we feel weak, we can draw strength from their faith.
Our brothers and sisters in faith can console us in times of trial and suffering. Their acts of charity
can inspire our own. Let us pray for our Church, that we may help each other on the way to heaven.
